Defence Lab in Hollywood
HOLLYWOOD TRAINER TO THE STARS
Andy has been working as a fight consultant to the Hollywood film industry since 2004 when Paul Jennings (Top Hollywood Second Unit Director) gave Andy his first big break in Batman Begins.
Andy has gone on to Consult and work with some of the biggest names in the industry.
“To survive in the world of Hollywood you need to perform your duties well. There is no room for complacency and ego, you need to be highly professional, focused and everything needs to be sharp and on the ball.
I take what I do very seriously, and feel very proud of what I have achieved, not just for me, but for all the instructors and students around the world who study and train with the DL organisation.
I will continue to give my best, as I always have, and for as long as I can”
One point Andy always makes very clear is this: he is more than aware of his own mortality, and just because he is fortunate enough to work with and train some of the biggest names in the world of Hollywood, he always likes to keep his feet on the ground.
“Many people ask me about Hollywood and what’s it like to train somebody like Tom Cruise…Well, what do you think?Awesome of course, but I have very clear the reality, it’s a job, and a job I must perform well.
Is it cool to say to somebody, when asked -Yeah I trained Tom Cruise…- Yes of course it is! Do I like it and does it make me feel good? Yeah of course It does, but do I let it go to my head? NO! I am just a guy training like everybody else.
A thing like this can feed my ego for ten minutes, but then I come back down to earth, and get on with the reality of life, and ultimately my dream; the dream, well, build one of the best professional martial art organisations in the world.”
As Andy often says when the subject of Hollywood comes up, “yeah that’s all well and good, but what does that mean for me? How does Andy Norman training Tom Cruise benefit me?”
So what does this mean to you?
Well, It means that what Defence Lab has to offer really is something quite special; it’s not just another run of the mill martial art with a new name.
It really is rather unique, and that’s what makes it so appealing to vast and varied marketplace. Andy definitely has a unique flair and radical twist to what he has evolved throughout his life, and now it’s taking root in a big way.
